Overview
Nestled in the far southwestern corner of Uganda, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is the country’s smallest but one of its most spectacular protected areas. Covering an area of only 33.7 km², it forms part of the larger Virunga Volcanoes Conservation Area, which spans across Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Mgahinga is best known for its population of mountain gorillas and its dramatic volcanic scenery — a haven for adventure and nature enthusiasts alike.
The park’s name comes from the word “Gahinga,” meaning a pile of volcanic stones. It’s a place where silverbacks roam freely, golden monkeys swing through bamboo forests, and misty peaks pierce the clouds — offering a truly mystical trekking experience.
